During the summer of 2003, many regions of western North America, particularly California in the U.S. and British Columbia in Canada, were plagued by spectacular wildfires that not only consumed hundreds of thousands of acres of forests and grasslands, but also hundreds of homes and businesses. Sparks from traditional campfires were unfortunately to blame for many of the fires of 2003. As a result, campfire bans were rightfully ordered in most state and provincial parks as well as national forests and other outdoor recreation areas.

With drought conditions and a record amount of "fuel" accumulated in our forests, campfire and fire pit bans are something that we are going to have to get used to. As avid campers and outdoor enthusiasts, we wondered if there was a product that would be safe under the west's tinder-dry conditions. Camping just isn't the same with out the warm glow of a campfire in the evening - and of course, how are you going to roast marshmallows without that campfire!

Being environmentally conscious, we also wondered if there was a more eco-friendly alternative as well. Cutting down trees or removing "snags" that form habitat for many small woodland creatures, just doesn't seem right and it is getting harder and harder to find suitable firewood near most camping spots as our forests get busier. Further, smoke from traditional campfires does contribute to air pollution, albeit it a small way.

Not satisfied with the solutions available on the market, we commissioned a small specialty manufacturer to build a propane-powered camp fire for us, which we named, the Woodsman's Choice. Careful attention was paid to the look and feel of the campfire - it had to look and feel authentic, and of course, it had to be safe.

The result is a campfire that has no smoke, no mess, and no sparks. With low emissions, it is environmentally friendly, and most importantly it looks and feels like a real campfire! You can cook on it and of course, you can roast your marshmallows too! In most regions, it is governed by the same rules as a propane camp stove, so it is permitted during campfire bans. When you are finished with the fire for the night or at the end of your trip, you just turn it off, pack it up and take it with you - know need to worry that you might be leaving behind a smoldering campfire which could ignite the forest.

The Woodsman's Choice portable propane campfire comes with a built in handle for easy carrying, and can be connected to a standard 20 lb propane bottle which will provide more than 16 hours of burning time.

The Woodsman's Choice propane-powered portable campfire is ideal for backyard campfires and barbeque areas as well as for your favorite camping spot. It can be set up in literally minutes, providing you with a clean burning, safe, authentic looking camp fire for the enjoyment of your family and friends.
