Canadian stocks
We feel that there is a severe lack of quality unbiased educational information available to investors in Canada. Having spent more than a decade in the Canadian financial industry and in particular, in the field of Canadian small and micro-cap stocks, our founders feel that something has to be done about the lack of objective investor information and educational resources on the web. Our objective is to begin publishing a mix of articles previously published by some of our founders. These are available free to all stock market investors - we are not trying to sell anything. During the past 5 years, as we have watched good Canadian stock research and information websites come and go and others evolve, we grew increasingly frustrated to the point that we felt we need to do something…. Canada Stockwatch, the premier Canadian stock quote, press release, and market information site, continues to provide a solid overall market data service (they finally upgraded their website interface about a year ago!) , however, the management seems more interested in exposing scandals in its "street wires" than in creating a resource of educational material. Canstock.com, founded by the now defunct Canadian Stock Market Reporter, was acquired by investment newsletter publisher, CanStock Information Services Corp. The Canadian stock quote and news release tools were abandoned by CanStock and the canstock.com website became an alias URL for the new owner's website. The Canadian Stock Market Reporter was hailed as an alternative to Canada Stockwatch and may have eventually been more successful in offering more investor education tools as well as market data. Stockhouse has emerged as the leading host of investor bulletin boards, however, investor education seems to take a back seat. Stockhouse merged with StockGroup and the two seem to be focused on providing services to public companies looking to enhance their investor promotions, and selling its financial content to other websites, rather than true educational content. Newsgurus.com, which had some promise as its focus was on investor education, is now defunct. We were intrigued by the notion of bringing together investment professionals from a wide array of backgrounds to one site to debate the markets and publish educational articles, but it appears a business case couldn't be made based on the likely lofty compensation expectations of its contributors. Small-Cap Conferences, a site sponsored by IR-firm QIS Capital, has taken a unique approach the the Canadian investment conference scene by launching a conference series dedicated to companies that meet strict fundamental criteria. We are impressed with their format. You can learn more about their conference series by visiting their website at "Canadian small-cap investment conference." Of course, investment newsletters have popped up all over the market. While the vast majority are worth less than the paper they are written on, some have proven to offer some interesting stock research and information on Canadian stocks, few publish any true educational content for their subscribers. Sadly, many of these same newsletters market specifically to a rather unsophisticated investor audience who is most in need of education. It is clear to us that most newsletters have little interest in providing true education as this doesn't sell subscriptions as fast as creating hype around the next hot research pick. We will try to bring your information on some of the more interesting and unbiased newsletters as time permits. So, in the end, we hope to become only a small start - a movement in the right direction. We hope to add to our archive of stock trading and stock trading information resources over the coming months as we convince more investment professionals to share their educational resources with us. We hope to help Canadian stock investors expand their market knowledge and generally become more successful investors.
