Holmes Humidifier Review
What it is
Holmes manufactures a number of different point of use or stand alone humidifiers for the retail market. They will humidify rooms of varying sizes up to an impressive 3400 sq ft, although they do have to be refilled rather often. This is especially true with the larger units as it requires 14 gallons per day of water to humidify a 3400 square foot room. If you only wish to humidify the air in a single room in your home, don't mind constantly filling the water reservoir, and are okay with the cost and bother of replacing the foam pads every few months this style of humidifier could be an option for you.
Holmes humidifier problems
Console humidifiers have a number of downsides when compared with other humidifiers on the market. They require monitoring and refilling when they are empty. The foam pad or drum needs to be replaced every few months and can often be a breeding ground for bacteria as minerals clog up the pores in the foam, trapping water inside and allowing it to stagnate. You'll notice if you look at most retailers for the holmes humidifier, they also sell a great variety of filters as well as anti-bacterial solutions. Judging by the variety and number of these products, the maintenance of such a unit can be rather onerous. Their efficiency also decreases rather drastically as their filter becomes clogged with minerals.
Holmes humidifier benefits
The main benefit of this console humidifier is it's cost. In most cases they are they cheapest units available. Unfortunately this does not often offset the drawbacks. As the old saying goes, oftentimes "you get what you pay for". The Holmes humidifier is very portable and can easily be taken from room to room or house to house. It does not require any installation at all. Simply fill it with water, and plug it in.

Pricing for the various models of humidifiers offered by Holmes ranges from a low of about $24.95 US up to a high of $99. Replacement filters and pads seem to run around $10 US. Take note that the larger humidifiers can require up to 4 of these filters at a time. A variety of extras are also offered such as cleaning kits and raspberry or vanilla scent tablets. These extras seem to be around the $10 US range as well.
