Simultaneously Treat Hardness, Iron, Manganese, and Tannins/Organics

Ecomix®-C is a multi-layer media solution containing adsorption and ion-exchange media designed for the concurrent treatment of hardness, iron, manganese, and tannins/organics. Ecomix® can treat higher levels of iron and manganese than traditional ion-exchange media used for water softening without the risk of fouling, It can also be used in applications where the feed water contains low but troublesome levels of natural organic matter that may interfere with disinfection and discolor the water.

Ecomix® is supplied in bags of carefully proportioned media. The media is added to the treatment tank and then backwashed. Upon backwash, the various media layers will automatically distribute themselves based on their specific gravity thereby creating 5 distinct treatment layers. This reduces time required to load the media into the treatment tank as the individual layers do not need to be loaded one at a time.

Integral to the performance of Ecomix are its unique FerroSorb® and HumiSorb® layers.

According to its manufacturer, Ecomix®-C removes dissolved (ferrous), oxidized (ferric), organic, and colloidal forms of iron as well as manganese through a combination of adsorption, oxidation, active layer formation and autocatalytic oxidation. In ideal conditions, Ecomix may be ableto be used in applications were the raw water iron level is as high as 15 ppm (mg/l) and manganese up to 3 ppm (mg/l), however, we recommend that you consult the manufacturer for recommendations specific to your application where the iron level exceeds 5 ppm (mg/l) and/or the manganese level exceeds 2 ppm (mg/l).

Ecomix®-C removes natural organic matter and tannins primarily through adsorption and anion exchange. While Ecosoft recommends that Ecomix can be used to treated concentrations of natural organic matter (total organic carbon) of upt to 17 ppm (mg/l) of which 5 ppm (mg/l) can be tannins, we generally recommend pilot testing for all applications exceeding about 5 ppm (mg/l) TOC or tannin greater than 1 ppm (mg/l), or than additional anion resin be added to the system to enhance organic removal capacity.

Water softening is achieved by cation exchange in the same manner as a traditional water softener.

  • Multi-function capability ideal where hardness, iron, manganese, and organics/tannins are combined - ideal for organic iron problems with or without hardness!
  • More cost effective than individual treatment options for each contaminant
  • Light-weight, easy to backwash at low flow rates
  • WQA validated to ANSI/NSF Standards 44, 61, and 372
  • Made in Germany

* While there is no limit on hydrogen sulfide concentration (rotten egg odor), Ecomix® will not remove this contaminant.

Operation of an Ecomix® system is the same as a common water softener. Periodic regeneration with salt is required to restore and maintain the treatment capacity of the system. As is the case with all cation-exchange systems, treatment with Ecomix will cause in an increase in the sodium content of the treated water proportional to the hardness and iron/managense removed. We can assist you in calaculating the expected sodium increase. Ecomix has a softening capacity of about 13,000 grain per cubic foot at a salt dose of 6.3 lbs per CF, and sizing is generally based exclusively on softening capacity required.

Ecomix® is manufactured in Germany and is supplied in 25 Liter (0.88 CF) bags and 12 Liter (0.42 CF) half bags.

Ecomix®, FerroSorb® and HumiSorb® are registered trademarks of Ecosoft Water Systems GmbH.
