Industry Leading Salt-free Hard Water Conditioning Media

ScaleStop media is the world's top-selling salt-free hard water conditioning media used for the prevention of mineral scale.

ScaleStop consists of polymeric beads which cause the formation of nano-crystals. These crystals remain suspended in solution instead of forming hard mineral scale on surfaces. This process is called Template Assisted Crystallization, or "TAC." Some competitors refer to this technology as as Nucleation Assisted Crystallization or "NAC". It is generally regarded as the most most respected form of alternative hard water treatment for scale prevention. Once formed, nanometer-sized scale crystals formed by the TAC media are stable, and do not easily revert back to their dissolved form or stick to surfaces. Instead, they simply pass through the water system and they do not form mineral scale. Only a very small volume of media is needed. Systems are run in upflow to allow the media bed to fluidize to enhance contact time. Typically, each 1L of media will treat 3-4 GPM of flow rate.

  • Environmentally-friendly -no water waste, no salt regeneration required
  • Does not remove beneficial minerals
  • No regeneration of backwash required
  • Only a small volume of media required

In a 2011 study conducted by Arizona State University, "Evaluation of Alternatives to Domestic Ion Exchange Water Softeners", it was determined that ScaleStop was the most effective of all the salt-free water conditioner technologies tested at preventing mineral scale. Reduction levels consistently in excess of 90% were noted. The study concluded that TAC-based media was far superior to magnetic and electronic-based water systems at preventing hard water scale formation. The study was absed on the DVGW Standard W512 test protocol which examines the formation of mineral scale on water heater elements exposed to water with elevated hardness.

ScaleStop is a direct replacement for TAC media used in Watts OneFlow systems and for Filtersorb SP3 media used in Greenwave, Nelsen, and other nucleation assisted crystalization systems.

Pre-treatment to remove certain contaminants is recommended prior to treatment with Scalestop. Elevated levels of chlorine, iron, manganese, hydrogen sulfide, copper, and certain other contaminants will damage TAC media and reduce its performance and service life. Polyphosphates and oils should also be removed prior to ScaleStop treatment to prevent fouling.

ScaleStop is commonly used in cartridge-style filters to protect tankless water heaters from mineral scale.
